Waking up just got a little brighter (or chilly, depending on the forecast) thanks to a new update for Google Pixel phones. Now, when you dismiss your alarm, you’ll be greeted by a beautifully animated weather forecast nestled right within the Google Clock app.

Google introduced a noteworthy update in October, integrating weather forecasts directly into the alarm-dismissal process. This convenient feature is exclusively available on Google’s Pixel phones. Originally, the weather forecast appeared as a straightforward block of text with an accompanying icon representing current conditions and temperature.

But gone are the days of squinting at blocky text forecasts. The new design, exclusive to Pixel devices and powered by the new Google Weather app, brings your day’s weather to life with charming animations. Once you turn off the alarm on your Pixel phone, the current weather conditions and temperature dance into view in a circle at the top left. Then, from the bottom right, a sleek cog slides in, revealing the day’s forecasted weather, high and low temperatures, and the usual “Ok thanks” button at the bottom to send the forecast packing.

Below is a video (hosted on Imgur) of the new design, which is already available on all of our Pixel devices.

This redesign isn’t just aesthetically pleasing; it’s practical too. The glanceable format makes it effortless to grasp the day’s weather outlook while still half-asleep. Plus, the clean lines and playful animations perfectly align with Google’s Pixel design language. While the new UI focuses on the day’s forecast, sacrificing the next day’s glimpse, it feels like a worthwhile trade-off. The improved readability and instant grasp of weather conditions outweigh the minor information loss, especially in the bleary-eyed moments after you turn off the alarm.

Eagle-eyed Pixel users might notice this Pixel-like redesign for weather forecasts after ending an alarm arrived without a formal Google Clock app update. That’s because it’s likely a server-side change or influenced by the Google Weather app.

Let us know if your Pixel phone has received the update and what you think about it in the comments.
