New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….

Original story (published on November 15, 2021) follows:

Google Classroom, Google’s platform for education, is widely used around the world. But, lately, it seems that it has been having some issues with uploading files.

More specifically, some iOS devices users reportedly don’t have the option to upload files directly. So they can’t attach their assignments.

File attachment or upload issue on Google Classroom for iOS

Some iOS device users report that, while trying to upload or attach their assignments file to Google Classroom, the option is not available (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6).

Instead, the interface would only offer options to upload images or add links. So if they want to upload a PFD directly to Google Classroom from their device, they can’t do it.

Unable to attach files to assignments

When I tap the “Add Attachment” button the upload file icon seems to have been changed to upload photos. It makes me unable to attach files that aren’t images from my iPad to assignments.

In addition to the above, even uploading images would be causing problems. According to some reports, while trying to upload an image, all they get is a ‘couldn’t attach drive file’ error message.

I tried searching about my issue on google and youtube ,but still any solution wouldn’t work. In the Google Drive of the account given to me by school there is no option to upload any file. Please help me fix this issue because of this I am not able to upload my assignments and not getting any marks.

There are similar reports from 2020

This problem would not be exactly new. There are reports from 2020 that describe similar situations. In this case, the web version of Google Classroom was also affected.

It should be noted that, although most recent reports come from iOS devices, there are also some that report suffering from the problem from Windows OS.

There is a workaround for that

There is a workaround that allows to attach files using Google Drive as a ‘bridge app’. Basically, you have to upload the file to Google Drive, and then attach it to Google Classroom from Drive.
