For many Google Calendar users, the process of seamlessly organizing an event or a meeting has hit a bit of a snag recently as they are unable to add shared space.

The issue at hand involves adding secondary calendars as guests, which, unfortunately, isn’t working as expected for a section of users.

Google Calendar event unable to add shared space

Reports have been pouring in (1, 2, 3, 4) from Google Calendar users who are encountering difficulties when trying to add secondary calendars to their events as guests.

As per reports, when they try to add shared calendar into the guest list, nothing happens when they search for a calendar and click on it.

Here are some reports for reference:

I created an event, and I wanted to invite a shared company calendar for visibility. I searched for the calendar and found it, but when clicked to add it, it didn’t add. This is a company-wide problem. (Source)

Up around until about an hour ago, I was able to invite separate calendars as a guest to events just by typing in the name of the calendar in the “guests” section while creating a new event. Now, the only way I can add other calendars to events is by directly typing in the calendar ID as a guest when creating a new event. (Source)

It seems the issue primarily affects Workspace users when they try to add shared meetings as a guest to a calendar invite.

When users attempt to add a shared meeting as guest, even though clicking on the meeting they want to add results in the dropdown closing, the meeting room won’t join the invite list.

Luckily, a product expert has confirmed that they have escalated this issue to the team for further investigation. However, they didn’t provide any ETA for the fix.

Unfortunately, we haven’t come across any potential workaround to fix this issue. That said, we will keep track of the latest developments regarding this and inform you by updating this article.
