Sonos is in the news once again. This time, some are facing issues while playing music on Sonos speakers.
Playing music on Sonos using Google Assistant
According to reports (1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9), multiple owners of Sonos speakers are experiencing difficulties when playing music with the help of Google Assistant.
The Google Assistant allegedly responds to users’ commands and announces the correct track, station, or playlist relation information, but playback fails.
This happens because the voice requests to control the speaker and play music can’t be processed properly. And to add to one’s troubles, updating the app and devices doesn’t help solve their problem.
However, users are able to utilize the Assistant for other tasks, like asking for weather reports normally. And this is understandably a piece of bad news for all those who use Google Assistant for their day to day activities.
When I say. Hey google, play some music or play a specific song. It used to always work. Now it just says. “Okay, playing music on youtube music” but it’s not playing.

Some of have tried common troubleshooting steps like removing the Google Assistant and setting it up again but to no effect.
Customers are now requesting Sonos to fix this issue so that they can enjoy grooving to their favorite tracks with ease.
Official acknowledgment
Fortunately, the Sonos support team on Twitter has officially acknowledged this issue and is currently investigating it. Although, no official ETA for the bug fix has been given.
For the time being, the company recommends that affected users make use of the official Sonos app.
That said, we are hopeful that Sonos will soon resolve the issue where music won’t play when using Google Assistant commands.
Until then, we’ll keep an eye on this issue and update this article with noteworthy information.
