If you’re a regular Gmail user, you might have noticed a recent change where the option to create a calendar event has been removed or gone missing.

Users are reporting that the ‘More’ menu in Gmail no longer includes the option to directly create a Google Calendar event.

And hence, the removal of this option has sparked mixed reactions among users. Here are some reports for reference:

The option under More to Create Event from an email in my Gmail inbox is missing. Looking at old posts about this, I tried “popping out” the email in a separate window, but it’s still not there. This isn’t a government or work account: just my personal Gmail. (Source)

There used to be and option on emails (under the triple dots [more]) to create an event from the email I was in. As of yesterday that option no longer exists. What happened to it and is there any way to get it back? (Source)

Here’s why the ‘Create event’ option is missing in Gmail

For users who are looking to create a calendar event, don’t worry – the feature hasn’t disappeared entirely. You can still access it, albeit through a different route.

Evidently, this is a deliberate change from Google as confirmed in their recent blog. You can check it out here.

Expectedly, some users find the new placement more convenient, while many others miss the ease of the old location.

For those are unable to find an option to create an event in Gmail, here’s how to:

  • Open Gmail and locate the email you want to create an event from.
  • Open the Calendar sidebar within Gmail by clicking on the Calendar icon.
  • Navigate to the specific date you want to create the event on within the Calendar sidebar.
  • Click on the desired time slot on the calendar and event subject will be added as event title
