New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….

Original story (published on June 10, 2021) follows:

Android 11 has been with us officially since September last year and by now, most OEMs have managed to push out stable builds to their eligible devices, more on that here.

As expected, there have been a bunch of bugs and issues with Android 11 from various OEMs, many of which have been addressed with others being looked into.

Asus’ Zenfone devices haven’t been spared issues like these and now, some users are reporting a rather annoying issue with their Asus devices.

According to a section of Asus Zenfone device-owners, their units have an annoying bug that reset their Gboard settings after some time.

This issue seems to strike randomly and consistently and workarounds like clearing cache and app storage don’t appear to remedy the situation for affected users.

Ok, I tried it, after about an hour of not using the Zenfone, Gboard was reset again. But something I just noticed, when I unlocked my phone I got a permission popup of Gboard asking for access to my contacts (which I allowed), might be relevant? The popup was just there after unlocking without me doing anything.

Also, there is a possibility that this issue is caused by the Twin App feature, a feature that allows users of Asus devices to have multiple instances of the same app running on their devices.

The last update to the Zenfone 7 devices was supposed to fix this issue. However, it looks like some users are still experiencing the same issue.

These reports are most coming from users of the Zenfone 7 devices although there have been reports from Zenfone 8 users as well.

Now, Asus says that the issue has been forwarded to the internal team and a fix could come in an upcoming update to the said devices.

Asus needs to step up in ironing out these little bugs and issues as only then will the company be in a better position to take care of its other mess, updating its devices to newer versions of Android.

We shall continue to keep an eye on this and update as and when we get more info so stay tuned to PiunikaWeb.
