Fortnite Riot Shield too overpowered? Here’s how to destroy it!

Massively popular online Battle Royale, Fortnite, is facing heavy criticism due to its latest addition, The Riot Shield. This new equipment drop provides a defensive option on the battlefield, but according to players, it does its job a little too well. But is that the case? Let’s dive in.

In Fortnite, the riot shield, also known as the Ballistic Shield, is a defensive item that offers significant protection to the user while granting a pistol for offense. The shield can be found on the ground or in chests across the map and is labeled as a rare item.

It can absorb damage and can also shove other players. Added to the game in December 2023, it has since been the subject of much discussion in the Fortnite community.

The Riot Shield in Fortnite has both pros and cons:

Pros:

• Damage Absorption: The shield can absorb a significant amount of damage, providing protection to the user.
• Personal Defense: It offers substantial defensive possibilities, making it useful for close-quarters showdowns.
• Shoving Opponents: Rushing on the enemies with the shield can push them back.
• Pistol: The user is granted a pistol while holding the shield, providing a means of offense.

Cons:

• Vulnerabilities: The user’s legs and right arm are exposed, making them susceptible to attacks.
• Limited Visibility: It can be difficult to tell how much durability the shield has left, affecting the user’s awareness of its condition.
• Counterplay: There are various ways to counter the Riot Shield, such as shooting at the user’s feet, using explosives, or flanking them.

Overall, while the Riot Shield provides significant protection and offensive capabilities, it also has vulnerabilities that can be exploited by opponents.

While the shield does provide a massive increase in defense, it also limits the player’s maneuverability. Being tied to only a pistol also reduces the damage output of the players.

Considering all the positives and the negatives, it is hard to truly say if the shield is too overpowered and due for a nerf or even a ban. But for sure, the shield is by far the most versatile and interesting tool in the game.

Currently, the best and easiest method to counter the shield is to simply SPRAY’em! Using explosives or unloading an SMG magazine will not only break the shield to smithereens but also stun the user, making it easier to eliminate them.
