New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….

Original story (published on October 03, 2022) follows:

Fitbit is one of the most popular smart wearable-product companies dedicated to physical activity tracking and health monitoring.

It recently launched its newest smart wearables Sense 2 and Versa 4 which come with batteries that last up to 6 days. The new smartwatches are also capable of tracking blood oxygen levels, sleep patterns, and stress reactions.

However, one major problem that a lot of users are facing is that both these devices are currently incompatible with third-party apps.

Fitbit Sense 2 and Versa 4 missing 3rd-party app support

Many Fitbit users (1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8) are disappointed as the Sense 2 and Versa 4 currently don’t provide support for third-party apps.

PSA: The new Sense 2 & Versa 4 do NOT support 3rd-party apps (Fitbit App Gallery is NOT supported; at least at the moment)

I am very disappointed that the new versa 4 I just received does not have music apps like my versa 2 did. Are you going to update this so I can use pandora and Spotify on my versa 4. If not…. I will return and get an apple watch. I would never have upgraded if I had known that music apps would not work

Just got my sense 2. Upgrading from original sense. Why is there no google assistant support? I used to use that for controlling my YouTube music all the time on the sense. Alexa is not able to do that.

Users are unable to download and use various apps like Spotify, Pandora, Google Maps, and Google Assistant that were compatible with older generations in the Sense and Versa series of smartwatches.

It appears that the Fitbit SDK hasn’t even been updated to support the new watches. So, it’s obvious that 3rd-party developers are currently unable to develop apps and watch faces for them.

According to a creator on YouTube, Fitbit’s plans for third-party app support for these watches are nowhere in sight.

A Fitbit Moderator also confirmed that both the new devices will not support Google Assistant, at least for the time being. This means that users will have to stick with the built-in assistant (Alexa) regardless of their preference.

In regards to the voice assistant, let me share currently there are no plans to deploy Google Assistant on Sense 2 or Versa 4.

Unfortunately, Fitbit is yet to officially address the issue where Sense 2 and Versa 4 are missing 3rd-party app support.

We’ll keep tabs on the issue and update this story to reflect noteworthy developments.

Update 1 (January 09, 2023)

06:20 pm (IST): Fitbit appears to have enabled third-party app support for the Versa 4 and Sense 2 since an app named MED ID lists both devices as compatible.

Update 2 (January 18, 2023)

03:49 pm (IST): Fitbit Sense 2 and Versa 4 users have been facing a bug where using the Google Maps app on the smartphone is not reflected on the smartwatch (1, 2).

Fortunately, the issue has been acknowledged for both devices (1, 2), but there is no ETA for a fix yet.

Update 3 (February 21, 2023)

12:37 pm (IST): Fitbit support has reportedly confirmed that they currently have no plans to bring 3rd party app support to Sense 2 and Versa 4 even though an overwhelming number of users are requesting for it.
