Pixel users managing documents on the go know the convenience of the pre-installed Files by Google app. While it can handle most file types, PDFs have relied on the separate Drive PDF Viewer for basic editing. This might soon change, potentially streamlining the document handling experience on your Pixel.

The Drive PDF Viewer gets the job done for simple annotations, but its feature set feels limited compared to dedicated PDF editors. A recent discovery on Telegram suggests Files by Google could soon ditch this dependency and offer an integrated PDF editing suite within the app itself.

Early reports indicate a revamped UI within Files by Google app, specifically for handling PDFs on your Pixel or any other Android phone. This new interface includes dedicated arrow buttons for easier scrolling and a potentially exciting addition — a floating action button hinting at text annotation features. While the new features haven’t been officially confirmed or rolled out to all Pixel devices yet, the rumor mill is churning with excitement.

The message button in the bottom right corner (left screenshot above) will reportedly allow users to easily attach PDFs directly from Files by Google to Gemini. Plus, you can ask questions about the attached PDF content, making it a breeze to clarify any doubts, although this requires the Google app.

This potential upgrade within Files by Google could be a major boon for Pixel users who frequently handle PDF files. Imagine being able to annotate, highlight, or even add text directly within the Files app, eliminating the need to switch between different apps for basic editing tasks. While we wait for official confirmation, Pixel users can keep their eyes peeled for an update that brings this exciting functionality to the Files by Google app.

Not long ago, Google also rolled out a new ‘Scan’ button on the Files app to let you digitize your documents.
