ESPN is perhaps one of the world’s greatest news and entertainment sources for all things sports. The company is owned jointly by Disney and Hearst Communications.
The sports info behemoth can be found on almost every medium be it books, documentaries, movies, cable channels, broadband, and even apps.
The ESPN app gives out scores and signings to help you stay updated with all info regarding your favorite team, even on the go. Along with that, it is also a great news source and includes a range of video content.
You can even sign in and personalize the app to receive alerts for teams and leagues from Football, Cricket, F1, NBA, NFL, Tennis, Golf, MLB, and more.
The app is available on both iOS and Android, although the latter has been plagued by issues lately.
As it stands, the latest version of the app that was released on May 5 has turned out to be such a cause of bother that it has led to a slew of recent negative reviews which have effectively brought down the app’s rating to 3.8.
In contrast, the iOS version of the app has a respectable rating of 4.5.
Most of the negative reviews state the app is always riddled with connectivity issues, no matter what network is being used. This results in videos not loading at all.
In our limited try-out of the app, we did indeed find it rather slow. While the slightly slow app launching speed was tolerable, the extremely slow video load speeds were definitely unforgivable.
The app’s video view got stuck on a black screen and it was only after a full 20 seconds that the video started to play.
But that’s not the complete story. Numerous other users have complained of lags and even of an issue where the ESPN Android app keeps crashing immediately after opening.
There are also plenty of reports about login issues where the app gets stuck and refuses to proceed. This is especially frustrating for ESPN+ subscribers. After all, they actually paid for the subscription.
While there isn’t really a solid solution for the range of issues plaguing the bugged app, several users have stated that they were able to temporarily work around the crashing and video loading issues by simply re-installing the ESPN Android app.
But if you do not wish to go through that hassle, clearing the data and cache of the app should suffice as well.
