EA FIFA 23 'unbalanced matchmaking during FUT Champs qualifiers' being criticized

It’s that time of the season in FIFA where everyone hops onto the game to get the Team of the Season cards. So to increase the probability of getting one, players want to qualify for the weekend league.

However, there seems to be an issue with matchmaking in the Champions qualifiers.

FIFA 23 has two competitive stages in FUT Champions, the Play-Offs and the Finals, that allow players to compete and win wonderful prizes.

Players need to win the weekly Play-Offs and earn points in order to qualify for the weekend Finals. Generally, the game’s matchmaking system places you against equally powerful opponents.

For instance, if you are on a winning run, your opponents will likely also be. On the other hand, if you are on a losing streak, your opponents are also going through a similar ordeal.

This method ensures that players get a level playing field and also have the opportunity to showcase their abilities.

However, multiple FIFA 23 players (1,2,3,4,5,6,7) claim that matchmaking during FUT Champs qualifiers is unbalanced.

Allegedly, stronger players are being paired with weaker opponents, and the weaker players are getting matched against stronger competitors.

A gamer says they’ve been matched against multiple top tier red players for the last week. This makes it quite difficult to win any match.

On the flip side, another player claims that they have been facing weak opponents the entire week, making it easy to defeat their competitors.

And as per the claims (1,2), this issue is not limited to Champs since others report that matchmaking is very unstable in friendly matches as well.

So those affected are demanding a quick fix for the game, as they want to enjoy the final few weeks of FIFA 23 before they start anticipating for EA Sports FC.

Unfortunately, EA has not officially acknowledged this issue, and we were unable to come across any workarounds. However, we are hopeful that the company will soon resolve this issue.
