If you are a Google Messages user on your Google Pixel or other Android devices, you may have noticed that RCS chats currently only work with the default SIM for calls. However, that might change soon, and you could start using RCS chats with both SIMs without any problem.
According to a finding by GApps Flags & Leaks, the latest Google Messages beta update includes some strings that make direct reference to the use of RCS chats with more than one SIM or phone number on the same device. The strings in question are the following:
- RCS chats for %1$s and %2$s will be turned off
- RCS chats for all numbers will be turned off
- RCS chats for both numbers will be turned off
- RCS chats for this phone number will be turned off
- Your IT administrator turned off RCS chats for all SIMs.
- SIM %1$s RCS toggle
As you can see, the code explicitly mentions RCS chat support for both numbers if you use a dual SIM device. It also notes that you can disable it for any of your numbers if you wish.
It should be noted that the arrival of dual SIM support for RCS chats in Google Messages is not something that takes us by surprise, since when setting up your number to enable the feature, the app warns that it is only compatible with your default calling SIM, but they are working to change that in the future.
Dual SIM RCS chats are functional after enabling some flags
Although it is not enabled as standard, a user (realAshwin on Telegram) shared some screenshots with the source showcasing the dual SIM RCS chat feature working after enabling some flags in the latest Google Messages beta app. So, considering that the implementation is functional, we probably won’t have to wait long for a wider rollout.
For now, we only have to wait for new related developments to know when this long-awaited option will arrive in Google Messages, a service that is becoming increasingly complete and attractive in a short period of time.
