[Updated] Discord 'Your files are too powerful' error or ‘static audio after compression’ a known issue, but no ETA for fix

Discord is one of the world’s most popular messaging services that is particularly designed for gamers and caters to their requirements.

Yet, Discord is more than just a “simple” messaging app. The service allows you to establish entire channels (text and voice) with multiple sections, as well as incorporate bots of various types with different functionalities.

According to multiple reports, Discord app users are facing multiple issues while compressing the video files on the Android app (1,2,3,4,5,6).

When a Discord user attempts to send a video, a ‘Your files are too powerful’ prompt appears on their displays. This popup should appear only if the file size exceeds 8MB.

That’s not the case, though, since many users are having trouble uploading video files that are within this size restriction.

A further issue related to video compression is also being reported. Users claim that once a video is compressed, the audio becomes static and is no longer clear.

No idea if that was one of the beta updates, but any video i send from now on below 10mb is completely unnecessarily compressed into a much smaller size, resulting in it’s audio being completely mashed into a loud, screeching static noise, it’s been extremely annoying, anyone else suffering from this bug?

@discord when I have a video that is small and under 8mb that I try to upload, discord keeps saying the file is too powerful. I think it’s the auto compression feature, and I can’t turn it off. Please help

The Discord support is already aware of the issue and is working on a fix, but an ETA has not been revealed yet.

Another issue that has been plaguing Discord users is the inability to scroll chat on any server on iOS platform (1,2,3).

Users report that the sidebar works well and that they can access other chats as well. However, when they enter a chat on any Discord server or private, they are unable to scroll through the messages.

Others report being unable to type a message as well.

@discord I’m having trouble using the app and don’t know how else to contact support. I can’t type in the chat at all and I can’t scroll in my chat either. It’s like the screen is frozen though other parts of the app are working, just not the chat feature

As it turns out, Discord support has acknowledged the issue and said a fix is underway. But there is no timeframe on when the problem will be resolved.

15:55 pm (IST): It seems that the Discord file compression system bug (1,2,3,4) on Android has crept up again.

However, the support has acknowledged the issue but there’s still no ETA for a fix.
