Discord is a prominent social networking platform used by people across the globe. The company tweaks its platform frequently by introducing bug fixes for known issues and adding new features.

However, it looks like some recently made changes have bricked Discord’s inappropriate image filtering system.

Discord flags normal images as explicit or inappropriate

According to reports (1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10), some Discord users are experiencing issues while trying to send images as they get wrongly flagged.

Apparently, the platform classifies normal pictures even from some cartoon-based comics or kids’ toys as NSFW (not safe for work), explicit or inappropriate images.

A Redditor says that Discord flaged a snippet from an animated toon as inappropriate and doesn’t allow them to send it to their friend’s group chat.

Another user on Twitter alleges that even a screenshot of an article that they are trying to send to someone is getting wrongly classified.

The issue has been persistent for the past few days and has not been resolved by the developers until now.

It looks like the platform is tightening up its automatic ‘explicit or inappropriate content’ filters, which have led to such a high number of false positives.

No official response

Unfortunately, Discord has not officially acknowledged the issue, so it looks like users might have to wait a bit longer.

That said, we’ll keep an eye on the issue where Discord wrongly flags normal images as explicit or inappropriate and update this story to reflect noteworthy information.

06:07 pm (IST): A Redditor has shared a potential reason for this happening. You can check it out below:

Discord has a filter that prevents sending NSFW or Gore to people, usually it has been found to block images with a lot of “skin” colors. I once tried to send a bear and it got blocked. ( this is a setting someone has enabled, to ‘scan messages from all people’ ) (Source)

Moreover, we have some across some workaround that might help you resolve this problem.

– Firstly, you can simply convert your picture into emoji.

– You can also use Imagur or other hosting site.

– Moreover, you can also upload the image to another discord and then just copy the link.

– Lastly, make your image black and white or reduce the skin color.
