Discord has recently started testing a new referral or invite rewards system. This system will allow mobile users to send invites to their contacts and get a free server boost, if anyone invited joins.

One can begin the process by clicking on an invite button to generate a unique friend invite link. When the sent link is opened by the recipient, it automatically adds them as the sender’s friend.

This procedure helps users connect with their friends and earn rewards conveniently.

However, Discord had earlier raised concerns about invite rewards, especially those linked with servers that offered perks or financial incentives for inviting others.

And this was because users often ended up being spammed and bombarded with unsolicited messages. In addition, one also had to manually mute or block such individuals, which, without a doubt, was quite frustrating.

Users are now also skeptical that the reintroduction of this feature can result in a torrent of referral spam across servers.

Some have even questioned the need of implementing this functionality. And this is because the vast majority of Discord users are already connected with their friends.

They also assert that to reap the benefits of this referral feature, they may have to invite their family members to join Discord.

In addition to this, people have also raised concerns about the duration of the boost reward. They want to know whether it will be a temporary or lasting enhancement.

Hmmm. “Create multiple Alt accounts/contacts, then create Skype numbers or download bot numbers”. Perfect says the owner. (No I do not support this or will ever do LOL)

On the other hand, some people also feel that they will be able to generate new friends and earn server boosts with less effort.

Discord has even implemented limitations on how many times a user can redeem the boost reward. However, as the feature is still in its early stages, the exact mechanics and restrictions are unknown.

Literally EVERYTHING discord has done lately has been a bad idea. This is pretty mild compared to the username or server invite “updates”, but still, it’s a pretty damn bad idea.

Users are worried

A few also think that users can try manipulating the system by creating extra accounts or exploiting a vulnerability.

Additionally, they are also concerned that the new referral system may make it easier for others to obtain cheap boosts and subsequently create more servers with ‘rare’ invite links.

In the meantime, we’ll keep tabs on this topic and update this story to reflect noteworthy information.
