Discord is a popular chat and communication platform launched in 2015. It is designed for gamers but has since expanded to include a wide range of communities, including artists, musicians, and writers.

The platform allows users to create their own servers, which act as virtual communities where they can chat, share media, and play games together.

Discord permissions update faces backlash

That said, Discord recently updated its permissions settings to allow the ‘@everyone’ role to create custom emojis, sounds, stickers, and events. However, the permissions update from Discord is facing backlash from some users.

Previously, only users with the Manage Emojis, Manage Server, and Manage Roles permissions could create custom emojis, sounds, and stickers on a server.

But this new update means any user with the ‘@everyone’ role can create them. Below are some reports for reference:

It is such a wack change, I am really curious as to what made them do that. Most of the time when a user sets a permissions its because that’s how they wanted that permission to be set. (Source)

Discord just changing user permissions without the prior notification or consent of server owners?? tf?? (Source)

This change was intended to make it easier for community members to express themselves and make their servers more personalized.

However, some users have expressed concern that this update could lead to an increase in spam and abuse on servers.

Unfortunately, there’s no official statement from Discord on this. Also, this update appears to be rolling out as a server-side update as it hasn’t been available for everyone yet.

We hope that Discord reverts this change and goes back to the previous permission settings since many users are not fans of the new one.

Rest assured, we will keep an eye on the latest developments regarding this matter and inform you as and when we come across anything noteworthy.
