Turning off or disabling features on Google's flagship Pixel 7 & 7 Pro a new trend to troubleshoot bugs & issues, but is it a solution?

Google is selling a pure Android experience with Pixel phones. The impressive camera and timely updates have always been the key selling points for these phones. Google has also made sure its Pixel series is priced smartly.

However, these phones aren’t perfect. We’ve highlighted issues such as phones being bricked or stuck in bootloop, ‘No network’ or ‘No service’ (connectivity) problems, and many more.

In some of our coverages, we have suggested disabling or turning off a feature as a potential workaround. Take for example the issue with lock screen media controls missing on Pixel 7 units:

A solution was to disable the ‘Skip lock screen’ option in the face unlock settings. While it may not have a significant impact on how a person uses their device, it is far from ideal.

Is that what people pay for in flagship phones? What’s the whole point of having features if one has to disable or turn them off in order to temporarily resolve a glitch on their units?

Sadly, this has been a common occurrence, leading many users to wonder why pay so much extra for a feature that they will eventually have to disable.

The amount of times I have seen people say turn off 5G, AOD and location just to get a decent experience out of a phone is too damn high. It’s time to start holding the manufactures accountable instead of having to turn off feature they advertise.

Some Reddit posts have recently been filled with people recommending turning off a thing or two on your new Pixel phones.

People are spending an ever-increasing amount on buying flagship phones but when a bug pops up, one of the workarounds usually involves turning off a feature.

Similarly, even with the Pixel 6 series, a workaround for better network or connectivity was to disable 5G:

In this day and age, telling people to turn off basic features on their brand-new flagship devices should never be a solution. If anything, this is one thing that OEMs must resolve immediately. But will they? Only time will tell.

Turning off certain features on your brand-new Pixel 7 or Pixel 7 Pro to improve performance or address an anomaly should never be considered a solution. And this also applies to other brands, including Apple and Samsung.
