Diablo 4 players and devoted fans are swarming social media platforms to express their dissatisfaction with the high price tags of in-game skins.

The official subreddit has seen many reports addressing this concern. According to the community, shelling out $20 to $25 for a single virtual skin seems absurd.

I cannot believe how much they are charging for such basic skins. For a microtransaction based game, their store is really lacking anything worth looking at. They could make so much more money if they just charged $5-$10 a skin, that would be much more favorable and more likely for people to buy them. Their own greed is showing and hurting them in the long run. (Source)

The skins are $20-$25 dollars. Unless you’re stupid rich, no one thinks those skins are worth that much. (Source)

Skins have become a widely popular cosmetic item in modern gaming, especially within the realm of online multiplayer games.

These skins provide a distinctive appearance to a player’s character. For some free-to-play games like Fortnite, Valorant, and more, a substantial portion of their revenue comes from skin sales.

Notably, Apex Legends stands out for its remarkably high skin prices, which can even reach up to $120 for a single outfit.

Players are concerned that Diablo 4 is trying to emulate Apex Legend’s formula:

They’re trying to be like Apex legends. 20-25 dollar skins. FOMO rotation. Bundles. Etc. all they need is 140$ mythic skins and they will be on par. Apex Legends was the only other game I saw to pull these prices so arrogantly. (Source)

However, unlike Apex Legends, Diablo 4 is not a free-to-play title; it’s a premium AAA game with a standard industry price ($70 for the standard edition).

This is precisely why players (1, 2, 3, 4, 5) have been left dissatisfied by Diablo’s decision to impose such high prices on their skins.

Why did Activision Blizzard have such high price tags on their skins for Diablo 4?

Among the players who have shared their thoughts online, one individual attempted to provide some insight into the developer’s rationale behind the pricing.

They suggested that Activision Blizzard might be deliberately inflating the prices of their skins.

The typical price for a standard skin in the industry ranges from $5 to $7. However, they are currently marketing their skins at $20 to $25.

The theory proposes that they might eventually hold a sale. Where they may offer the skins at a discounted price of $7 to $10. This would create a sense of high demand while still charging more than the industry norm.

It’s important to note that this theory is entirely speculative and originates from a consumer perspective, lacking any official confirmation.

Activision Blizzard has made no official statement regarding the issue.

We’ll keep track of the situation and post an update if and when there are any further developments on the matter.
