Developed and published by Bungie, Destiny 2 is a popular free-to-play multiplayer FPS title available on Steam. Initially released in 2017, the developers frequently update the game with new content.

But these updates also cause inconvenience to many with players recently reporting long load times, menu stutter, and several performance issues.

Having said that, recent reports (1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10) from Destiny 2 players suggest that the game is crashing whenever they play Gambit matches.

Many say that the game crashes or freezes randomly at some point in time making it impossible to play.

In case you are unaware, the Gambit mode combines PvP and PvE in a single mode with players fighting against each other as well as AI, lasting a total of three rounds.

As of recently, my game has been crashing fairly consistently when ever I: A) play gambit B) load into an activity with someone on PC (I’m on PS5) And while not as often my game will crash if I try to load into activities in general. I have noticed that most of the crash reports have been on PS4&5. The other majority it Gambit. Maybe it’s because of all the events being active at once the game is having a stroke. Or it’s something on Playstation side.

I’ve been experiencing several mass-crashes in gambit (my team or other), typically when the team pulls ahead, or is able to maintain after the crash of team mates. I’ve seen it on my team, and on the opposing side, and only one side ever experiences it. Does anyone else have any data, implicit or otherwise, that could lend credence to this theory, or disprove it? Thanks! Edit: Before anyone asks, I’ve never had trouble with this before, and my pc specs far exceed minimum recommendations.

Some say they tried verifying their game files via Steam and redownloading the game but the issue persists. Players are frustrated because Gambit is one of the most popular modes in Destiny 2.

Thankfully, a Senior Community Manager at Bungie has commented on the matter and said that they are aware of the issue where gambit matches cause Destiny 2 to crash.

While they did not share any ETA on when it will be fixed, it looks like the bug will be fixed sometime in 2022.

Fix won’t come ‘til Next year, but team is on it.

Until then, it looks like Destiny 2 players have no choice but to avoid playing gambit matches. As always, we will keep an eye out on the matter and let you know when the issue is fixed.

Update 1 (January 14)

03:40 pm (IST): Many users have come together to ask Bungie to remove the Quitter penalty as they’re being penalized even though the game crashes and it’s no fault of the players. The Reddit thread has 699 votes and counting.

Update 20 (January 14)

03:06 pm (IST): Senior community manager at Bungie said that the team will be deploying a hotfix tomorrow to fix the Gambit match crashing issue.
