[Updated] Deathloop 'crashing, freezing & low FPS' issues on Xbox and PC acknowledged (workarounds inside)

Deathloop is an interesting FPS developed by Arkane Lyon and distributed by a giant in the video game industry like Bethesda.

The game differs from others in its genre through its unique storyline where assassins are trapped in a kind of ‘timeloop’ that forces them to repeat the same day over and over again for eternity.

However, lately many Deathloop players on Xbox consoles and Windows PCs have been dealing with multiple performance issues like crashing, freezing and low FPS.

Players on Xbox and PC have not had the best possible experience in the game. At times Deathloop becomes unplayable on these platforms due to multiple performance issues.

There are multiple reports of crashes that can occur in various situations. The crashing issue seems to occur commonly while powering up generators or during the start menu.

Game crashes on startup (Gamepass)

Hi everyone, I wanted to see if anyone is having a similar experience to mine. I installed the game in Game Pass and it just crashes. When I click play, the splash screen appears, it says launching game for a few seconds and then just closes.

powering up generators cause crash on XSX?

Today, I tried to power up the Generator with battery twice and both crashed on my Xbox Series X. I have the GamePass Ultimate Perk Purple Sniper and the Purple P10 right after the infusion story.

It’s worth pointing out that players on PS5 consoles have also been dealing with a similar situation in recent days.

In addition to the crashing issue, for some players the game is having constant and noticeable FPS drops that negatively affect the experience.

Low FPS/GPU Usage

I am enjoying the game but noticed my FPS was WAY WAY WAY lower than it is in most games. Sitting at a constant 45 FPS when I figured I should be at AT LEAST 120.

I tried this game on gamepass and the performance is still bad

soon as you leave the tutorial section and I assume get into the first open area zone, the fps tanks. Im talking 40 and less.

In addition to FPS drops, there are also random freezes. This occurs even in the ‘performance mode’ that lowers the graphic quality to offer a more fluid performance.

Stuttering is unbearable on PC

The stuttering is making this game suck. I can play other games just fine but the stuttering in this game after a couple hours in makes it quite literally unplayable.

Game freezes for 3 seconds everytime I open or close a menu (PC)

I just installed the game via the Xbox store launcher, every menu I open or close it freezes, than returns to normal, it hasn’t crashed, just this weird freeze.

There are a couple of potential workarounds that could help you resolve or mitigate the Deathloop performance issues. First, you can turn off the ‘motion blur’ option from the game’s graphics settings.

I had similar. I turn motion blur off and it seemed to alleviate the issue. Still get minor incidents like you’re describing but it’s much less noticeable

The most effective workaround so far to immediately improve Deathloop performance is to disconnect your console or computer from Wi-Fi.

Deathloop devs are already aware of the issues and looking into it. The company will offer updates on the situation ‘soon’, but there is no ETA for a fix yet.
