Here’s the crux of the article in video form:

Due to the ongoing woes of a looming lawsuit by Nexon, the recently released dungeon crawler Dark and Darker is becoming a big concern for players.

Customers who bought the game using the developer Ironmace’s Chaf website and official launcher think they may not get the Steam key when it’s out.

Am I the only one who sees the lack of a steam version as a HUGE red flag? Since Ironmace is now taking money for a product that they can’t launch on steam because of a huge copyright lawsuit a really dangerous gamble? (source)

How will buying the game on the Chaf website effect the eventual release if it happens on Steam? Will we be able to get the Steam version for free? I don’t want to have to double buy. (source)

The concerns of the players are real. Most of the time, buying a game on a different platform means the customer can only access the product on that specific platform.

In order to get the benefits of a Steam key, customers need to re-purchase the game through Steam’s official portal.

But the Dark and Darker players aren’t ready to accept this fact yet. Numerous queries were made on Reddit and Twitter regarding the issue (1, 2, 3, 4).

Will there be a Dark and Darker Steam key in the future?

The community that was waiting eagerly for the game was disappointed to learn that it wasn’t available on Steam during launch.

Even the official launcher that Ironmace offers, Blacksmith, has been a buggy mess since its release. Kindling even more backlash.

So far, there hasn’t been any official statement from the developers about serving the players’ demands. One fan even tried to sway the developers by saying:

hey IRONMACE, promise me my purchase off your site includes Steam integration/key once it’s available, so I won’t have to purchase a Steam-version of your game again like other predatory devs try and make consumers do, and i’ll buy it rn (source)

Players are hoping that they will hear from Ironmace on the issue as soon as they wrap up the DMCA lawsuit.

In the meantime, we’ll keep monitoring this issue and update you as and when something noteworthy comes up.
