Age of the Empires 2 crash and performance issues haunting players after update 99311

Age of Empires 2 players are frustrated with the increasing crash and performance issues following the 99311 update. With numerous reports on various forums and social media, the developers have been made aware of the issue. Until a fix is issued, here is a workaround mentioned below.

Update 99311 is a recent update for Age of Empires 2: Definitive Edition, released on December 12, 2023. It includes quality-of-life features such as enhanced unit UI, lockable gates during construction, and enhanced tooltips for unit icons.

The update also introduces a new challenge scenario called Mangudai Madness, bug fixes based on feedback, pathfinding and formation fixes, and balance changes.

While these updates are highly appreciated by the community, the compromised stability of the game has become quite an issue for the players. Some reports claim that the update may have improved many aspects of the game, but it is now crashing 66% of the time.

As a result, the game has become almost impossible to play. Some players also mention a high occurrence of syncing and desyncing issues in the game, especially when playing against an AI opponent.

With the increasing number of reports, the developers soon caught wind of the issue and shared an official acknowledgment of the problem.

According to the statement, the team is aware of the issue. They are currently investigating it and hoping to publish a hotfix for the problem in the near future.

Until the official fix is issued, here’s a workaround:

• Go to player profile
• Then event mods
• Browse mods and look for Installed mods
• Unsubscribe from each item in the list.

This workaround is a community-sourced method, and the results may not be as expected. Players who have never used a mod may not benefit from this workaround.
