Clip Studio Paint users angered with Celsys due to v2.0 license deactivating v1, limited installations & switches between devices

Clip Studio Paint, developed by Celsys, has emerged as a powerful artistic tool that caters to various art styles, including manga, comics, illustrations, and concept art.

Back in March 2023, Celsys announced an eagerly anticipated upgrade to version 2.0 of Clip Studio Paint. This upgrade was offered as a free option for those who already owned a license for version 1 of the software.

So I recently bought a new tablet so I can work on art both in and out of the office, and figured “maybe I should upgrade.” Little did I know that in doing so they would kill my old license and make it so I have to “reactivate” every time I switch computers, unlike on the old license when I could have 2 computers no problem.

Furthermore, Celsys has implemented a new restriction on the number of devices on which the software can be installed.

Previously, users were allowed to install Clip Studio Paint on two devices, with the condition that it could not be used simultaneously on both.

This setup provided flexibility for artists who often work on different computers or switch between devices.

However, with the release of version 2.0, Celsys seems to have imposed limitations on the number of times users can switch between devices, making it more inconvenient for artists to work across multiple platforms.

I have never used CSP before in my life so i thought with the release of v.2 that i should start. I bought the EX version 1 time purchase. Now i want to use the program on my PC and my laptop but every time i want to do so, it says “deactivate and use on this device” and when i do press it says “There is a limited amount of times you can switch the active device.” Im scared that it might get stuck on the laptop and i wouldn’t be able to do anything about it.

The frustration stems from the fact that Celsys’ terms of use still state that Clip Studio Paint can be installed on two devices, but the practical implementation of this policy seems to have changed with the introduction of version 2.0.
