Popular augmented reality game, Pokemon Go, has been available on iOS and Android since 2016. It has been downloaded over a billion times across the globe making it one of the most played AR games.

However, an issue with the mega evolution feature has been spoiling the user experience for many Pokemon Go players lately and is further preventing them from progressing in the game.

According to multiple reports, players are unable to mega evolve Charizard in Pokemon Go even after having the correct amount of Mega Energy. This is inconveniencing players as they are unable to take part in battles among other things.

It is unclear what the exact cause of the issue is but it is only affecting Charizard whereas players are able to mega evolve any other Pokemon without any issues.

Also, generic troubleshooting like restarting and reinstalling the game is not helping Pokemon Go players. All this is further adding to players’ dilemma as they are unable to use the mega evolve feature on their favorite Pokemon.

Annoying issue, for some reason I can’t mega evolve my charizard even tho I have enough energy but still can mega evolve every other pokemon, very infuriating when you know that Genesect is super weak to fire. I tried to restart my game and phone several time tho. Please Help

However, there might be a way to mega evolve Charizard. Charizard can be mega evolved into Mega Charizard X and further into Mega Charizard Y if players have enough Mega Energy for both.

Some Pokemon Go players have pointed out that those who have not mega evolved Charizard to the X and Y variants before will face the aforementioned bug until they have enough Mega Energy for both.

This further means that those who have 200 or more Mega Energy might be able to mega evolve their Charizard in Pokemon Go. This has also been confirmed by another player who said that players with 200 or more Mega energy in their group were able to mega evolve their Charizard.

It’s currently bugged for many players; you might not be able to mega evolve it unless you have 200 mega energy despite the 40 cost that will be deducted.

Thus those who are facing this issue should definitely try the workaround given above. However, affected Pokemon Go players may not have to face this problem for too long.

This because Niantic is aware of the issue with Charizard and is investigating the same. So, it is possible that this problem might get resolved in the near future.

However, this is still based on speculation as Niantic Support has shared any timeline for a fix. Hopefully, the aforementioned issue gets resolved soon so that players can mega evolve their favorite Pokemon without any hassle.
