Baldur’s Gate 3 has earned a reputation as one of the best games of 2023, with the PC release garnering significant acclaim. However, with its recent debut on the PS5 console, some issues have come to light.

Foremost among these is the HDR problem. Reports (1, 2, 3, 4, 5) indicate that the console version’s HDR settings are negatively affecting the visuals.

It’s been reported that the HDR settings make the game either “too dark” or wash out the graphics, resulting in a somewhat “absurd” appearance.

Workarounds for Baldur’s Gate 3 broken HDR

As the reports pile up, players have come up with potential workarounds that could offer a fix for the issue.

One player recommends adjusting the HDR calibration on the system level:

You need to adjust the hdr calibration on the system level. Follow the guide for all the boxes except the last box with black levels. Make the little sun icon one or two levels brighter so you can kind of see it. It fixes the HDR in the game. (Source)

For those experiencing screen blackening issues, players can attempt changing the HDR values by going to Settings. The Larian support representative has confirmed that the issue is currently under investigation:

Go to Settings -> Screen and Video -> Adjust HDR -> at 3/3 (Black Point), increase this value by 1. (Source)

Lastly, if none of the workarounds prove effective, players suggest that turning off HDR may be the only viable solution.

We will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates if any further developments occur.
