[U: Crashing when loading save file] Baldur's Gate 3 not loading on Steam Deck for several; crashing issues reported too (workaround inside)

Baldur’s Gate 3 is a newly released role-playing video game from Larian Studios. And just after the launch, some early adopters are reporting that Baldur’s Gate 3 is not loading on Steam Deck or it keeps crashing.

According to reports (1, 2, 3, 4), Baldur’s Gate 3 is not loading for a section of gamers. Players say that the game is stuck on the bootup window where it keeps loading and doesn’t progress.

Here are some reports for reference:

#BaldursGate3 how many people are having save issues rn? I deleted everything last night and still can’t save at all. Larian threads aren’t even loading. I’ve restarted 4 times and now I’m reinstalling. Hopefully this fixes quick, this is a huge loss of time and effort. (Source)

Fortunately, there is a simple workaround that may help you fix the loading issue. One of those affected has suggested that switching to Proton Experimental is the key to getting the game running smoothly.

Furthermore, some players are also reporting (1, 2, 3) crashing issues at launch.

For some, the game crashes the moment it gets beyond the Larian logo screen, while some say it crashes 10 to 15 minutes after opening.

Luckily, there’s a workaround for the crashing issue as well. If the game is crashing for you, then you can try it out and see if it helps.

Workaround: if your game crashes at launch, just navigate to users/{username}/appdata/local/larian studios, delete the baldur’s gate 3 folder entirely, and then launch the game! (Source)

Unfortunately, the support team hasn’t yet acknowledged any of these issues. But we hope that they get fixed soon since they are ruining the gaming experience.

11:05 am (IST): According to recent player reports (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7) Baldur’s Gate 3 is experiencing frequent crashes while loading save files. Players are noting that the loading process becomes stuck precisely at 60%. This issue has raised concerns among many players, as they fear potentially losing over 60+ hours of their progress.
