Baldur's Gate 3 character's are overly "horny", players demand a fix for romance options

Larian Studios’ highly anticipated Baldur’s Gate 3 has become a hot topic on the internet since the moment it was released worldwide.

Aside from the fact that it is a masterfully crafted RPG that offers a plethora of possibilities, it has also begun a ‘revolution’ in the video game ‘romance’.

Ever since the official announcement of the game, the community had been a bit taken aback by the in-depth ‘adult scenes’ that the game promised.

And after witnessing the features firsthand following the global release, fans are a bit confused about how to react to Baldur’s Gate 3 romance options.

While some are enjoying the “adult scenes”, others have even demanded a total rework of the romance systems.

“The sudden shift from stranger to lover is just blindsiding when all I’ve been doing is bathing in the blood of the Duegar. There’s absolutely no buildup or anything in between, and I go out of my way to talk to her every chance I get.” (Source)

From the beginning, the developers made it very clear that Baldur’s Gate 3 romance is strictly oriented towards the adult demographic. During a gameplay showcase, a small section of the game gained a lot of attention.

In it, the player character is seen romancing a shapeshifter who turns into a bear before getting “intimate” with them.

One of the play-testers of Baldur’s Gate 3 even tried to warn the fans about the game’s “horniness” with a tweet saying, “Bear’s got nothin’ on what’s still to come”.

Although the theme of adult romance options in modern AAA games isn’t anything new, BG 3’s “overly thirsty” dialogue options and outcomes are something that rarely players have seen before.

One fan suggested a solution, saying A simple fix to this issue would be to add a few more layers of dialogue options between the characters and the player, so the user has the freedom to get their desired outcome from each interaction.

Many games, such as Witcher 3, Mass Effect, and Red Dead Redemption, have a similar romance system.

However, in these games, players have to go through a variety of hurdles and complete missions to deepen their bonds with the desired character before they can indulge in “intimate” actions with them.

This depth and freedom of choice, according to fans, is what the new Baldur’s Gate 3 lacks the most. So far, the developers haven’t shared any official statements or mentioned this issue.
