The At a Glance widget, that super helpful information hub on Pixel and other Android phones, is undergoing a subtle but interesting change. I recently noticed that the Google Assistant branding has been removed from the widget on my own device. This aligns with what 9to5Google reported on earlier.
If you’re a Pixel user, you’re likely familiar with this useful widget. It prominently displays the date, weather, and other important updates like upcoming calendar events, reminders, and travel information. Up until recently, it was called “Assistant At a Glance”, and the description made it clear that Google Assistant powered its functionality.
Well, with the latest update (v15.11), things are shifting. The word “Assistant” vanished, and the description now directly attributes the features to “At a Glance”. Even in the settings, where you can customize which elements the widget displays, the branding change is reflected.
This is intriguing because when Google unveiled its Gemini AI technology, they listed At a Glance as one of the features powered by Google Assistant. So, does this mean Google Assistant is being phased out as we know it? It’s possible! We’ve already seen signs of Gemini being integrated into products like headphones.
The folks over at 9to5Google also highlighted a glitch that makes the overflow button (three dots) next to the weather invisible. While you can just tap the area where the button should be, to bring up the menu, there’s a better solution. I was able to fix the bug by simply removing and re-adding the widget on my homescreen.
