When you buy a flagship phone, you expect the device to handle pretty much everything that you throw at it. Here, we are talking about the games, apps, or any media content, etc., which the phone should play smoothly without any hiccups.

However, it can be frustrating and a bit annoying to see that flagship phone, even though it has the capability to stream HD content, it does not include it out of the box. Yes, we are talking about Asus’s 2018 flagship phone, the Asus ZenFone 5Z.

Though the device on paper sports brilliant specs like the then-latest Snapdragon 845, 4-8 GB of RAM, etc. and even has the Widevine L1 certification, the Asus ZenFone 5Z did not have the ability to stream HD content on Netflix or Amazon Prime video.

Matter of fact, Asus enabled HD content streaming on the Asus ZenFone 5Z via a software update which was based on Android 9 Pie.

Later, it was reported that the Android 10 stable update messed something up and users reported that after installing the ZenUI 6 skin, the ZenFone 5Z loses the ability to stream HD content on Netflix and Amazon Prime apps, leaving users of the device stuck with SD quality content.

Users were left baffled and you can see various reports by the owners of the ZenFone 5Z on the community website. In response to this, Asus came out and stated that this issue needs to be addressed by Amazon Prime and cannot be solved by Asus.

And going by the recent development, as per one of the Asus Moderators, the Asus ZenFone 5Z does not support HD content streaming on Amazon Prime Video. Moreover, there are no plans to bring HD streaming to the device in the future as well.

Check out the comment below:

So, this pretty much rules out any new updates or support from Asus to bring the HD streaming support on Amazon Prime Video for the ZenFone 5Z.

However, one thing that readers should note is that moderators always do not have the correct information and who knows Asus might push a software update as the device came with built-in Widevine L1 support and it just needs to be triggered via an update. But, for now, nothing as such, is on the cards.
