Original story (published on August 31, 2020) follows:

Asus as a company is probably better known for its consumer PC business. The company makes some of the best gaming laptops in the market today. Asus’ push into the smartphone gaming scene has been equally monumental.

The latest iteration of Asus’ gaming phone, the ROG Phone 3 was unveiled back in July 2020 and it is an absolute beast. It packs an overclocked version of Qualcomm’s latest flagship chip, the Snapdragon 865+, and couples that with 8-16GB of RAM and upto 512GB storage.

However, it has not always been a bed of roses for ROG Phone 3 owners. This device came with one too many issues that the company is currently struggling to address.

We have already seen reports of Asus ROG Phone 3’s ‘black crush’ and ‘broken refresh rate’ display issues, AeroActive Cooler 3 issue, just to mention but a few.

A lot of these issues are set to get addressed in upcoming updates and if Asus’ recent history of fixing user-reported bugs is anything to go by, these too should get fixed soon.

Today, it is coming to light that a section of ROG Phone 3 users are experiencing an overheating issue on their units.

According to some of the complainants (1,2,3,4,5), the ROG Phone 3 is being reported to run very hot when charging, when using normal apps like instagram, YouTube or when playing demanding titles like PUBG Mobile.

The issue has been reported by users running various builds on their ROG Phone 3 including firmware versions 17.0823.2007.25 and 17.0823.1007.32.

According to a forum moderator on Asus’ZenTalk Forum, the issue is likely to get addressed in an upcoming update. When asked by a user when exactly this issue is going to be resolved, the moderator says:

Hi all

Please monitor the issue after the upcoming FOTAs, I believe there can be improvements. Thank you

With that, users of the ROG Phone 3 should look forward to an upcoming firmware for their device, and hopefully, that build will address some of the issues that they’ve been facing.

We shall keep an eye out for this upcoming build so stay tuned to our Asus section to be first to know when the update drops.

Update 1 (September 21)

IST 07:05 pm: A new update for the Asus ROG Phone 3 has added the Bypass charging feature which allows the device to be powered directly via the charger instead of the battery to avoid heating. See all the new features and improvements here.
