The Asus ROG Phone 3 was announced last week and the first sale for the device kicks off next month. Although, this has not stopped Asus from releasing the first update for the device which we reported earlier today.
This new smartphone from Asus is one of the first to come with the Snapdragon 865+ SoC. As a result, it will be one of the best performing Android phones once it goes up for grabs in August.
On the software front, the device comes with Android 10 out-of-the-box with an almost stock Android-like user interface. Thus, it lacks some of the features you’d find on skins such as One UI or MIUI.
However, since Asus ROG Phone 3 runs on Android, it shouldn’t be much of an issue. This is because, with the right support, users have the option to flash third-party ROMs that offer more features or customization options.
Further, Android OEMs that release the kernel source for their devices to the public make it a lot easier for developers to build stable ROMs for the phones. Thankfully, Asus has already released the kernel source code for the Asus ROG Phone 3.
Thus, users can expect to see support for a bunch of custom ROMs pop-up for the device. What’s even more interesting is that according to Lucas Stefani (LineageOS director), the source code of the ROG Phone 3 is unified with that of the ZenFone 7.
