With the new macOS Sonoma update, Apple Music has introduced a significant change to its ‘Recently Added’ tab, limiting it to display only 60 albums.

This means Apple Music users no longer have the ‘Infinite Scrolling’ function that allowed them to pick even the oldest albums from the ‘Recently Added’ tab.

Apple Music ‘Recently Added’ tab limited to 60 albums after macOS Sonoma

With the introduction of the macOS Sonoma, Apple has made significant changes to how music is displayed in the library on Macs.

Before the new update, users could navigate through their music collections chronologically, starting from their most recent additions and going all the way back to the earliest tracks they imported. This was made possible through a Recently Added tab that included timestamps like today, yesterday, this week, and this month, with an option for infinite scrolling.

However, there has been a change in the way this feature works. Instead of infinite scrolling, it now limits the display to just 15 rows, showing only the most recent 60 items that were added.

Notably, this aligns the Mac experience with that of iOS for iPhone and iPadOS for iPads, which has consistently displayed the last 60 items added.

It’s unfortunate because users greatly appreciated the ability to revisit their history and track when they added items or albums.

Many users have expressed their fondness for the previous method of navigating the library through the ‘Recently Added’ view. However, the current setup not only sorts but also filters to display only the most recent items, which is limiting.

Unfortunately, the ‘Albums’ view and individual playlists in the library cannot be sorted by ‘Date Added.’ They are only equipped with a few metadata sorting options available in the Menubar, rather than the full set of sorting options.

Here’s what can you do

Granted that this new change is intended, it’s highly unlikely that Apple will revert in any time soon. That said, there are a couple of things you could do right now if you can’t stand the change.

To start, you have the option to revert to the older operating system, which would restore several functionalities, including unlimited entries and scrolling in the ‘Recently Added’ section. I would personally not recommend reverting because you’ll lose out on all the goodness macOS Sonoma has to offer. It’s also important to note that over time, some aspects may cease to function properly.

Alternatively, the best course of action is to make use of Apple’s feedback platform and hope that the Apple Music team is made aware of the problem. You can submit your feedback here.

Another workaround to consider is creating a smart playlist that filters music based on the date added criteria using Marvis Pro.

While Marvis Pro does provide a dedicated ‘Recently Added’ tab, it’s important to keep in mind that its functionality may not operate smoothly on macOS. This is because the app is primarily optimized for iOS. Nevertheless, you can still utilize it to help you decide on your music selections and subsequently play the chosen tracks using the first-party Music app.

Finally, if the ‘Recently Added’ feature doesn’t meet your expectations, you can switch your library to the ‘Songs’ view and sort the songs by their date of addition. This will allow you to achieve the time-based browsing you mentioned.

This way you can escape the new change of Apple Music for ‘Recently Added’ tab in the latest macOS.
