Apple Music Discovery Station feature missing or playing same songs (poor recommendations)? Here's what to know

Multiple Apple Music users are experiencing an issue where the Discovery Station feature is missing or playing the same songs.

Apple recently launched the Discovery Station on Apple Music, which helps subscribers find music that they might like.

The feature also allows one to play a continuous stream of songs based on their listening history. Along with this, they can like or dislike songs to help the feature improve its recommendations.

However, by looking at the reports (1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10), it appears that several users are unable to utilize the feature as intended.

Apple asserts that the Discovery Station will provide users with a unique playlist according to their preferences and not repeat any song during playback.

But people claim to have encountered repeated songs, which seems to contradict Apple’s claim. They believe that the Discovery Station’s algorithm is flawed and suggests tracks without proper logic.

Some have complained that they are repeatedly recommended the same set of songs. They argue that this happens if these tracks are available on multiple albums launched across the globe.

They also emphasize that Apple should improve the Discovery Station’s algorithm and better analyze one’s listening history in order to deliver better recommendations.

On the other hand, a few individuals are being recommended tracks that do not align well with their musical tastes. They also allege that the unfamiliar suggested tracks tend to be of subpar quality.

I don’t see it in Listen Now. I did try one of the shared links, but it showed lots of music way outside my musical taste. So assume UK isn’t live yet…?!?

Some people have observed that the feature time and again suggests sad rap music, even when they rarely delve into rap.

And surprisingly, this keeps happening even after they have signaled their disinterest by selecting the ‘suggest less’ option for over a hundred such songs.

Although a section of users think that the algorithm might be confusing unrelated artists who share the same or similar names.

Sadly, some are yet to try out and experience this feature across their devices. As per the claims, it does not show up in the ‘Listen Now’ section.

And to make matters worse, opening a shared link recommends music that is not as per their preferences. Luckily, some were able to access the feature from the ‘Stations for You’ section within the Marvis app.

Although it’s quite possible that the feature is not currently available in some regions. So, unfortunately, you will have to wait a little bit longer.

I drive a lot and normally when I hop in the car I say “Hey Siri, play something I like” and it pulls up my radio station. I tried doing the same thing but saying “Hey Siri, play my Discovery Station” and it said “Sorry I’m unable to do that.” Is there some other verbal command that pulls this up?

You can also use Siri to launch Discovery Station. For this, you just have to ask Siri to play the music that you like.

In addition to this, you can try saying, ‘hey siri, play something I’ve never heard before’. You can also use the Shortcuts app to create a shortcut with a Siri phrase.
