Apple’s standalone music streaming app, Apple Music Classical has been out for quite some time for a number of users.

However, the release was met with a mixed response and some also complained about not having a dedicated app for iPad as it was seemingly broken or not optimized for them.

Apple Music Classical songs appearing in Apple Music app

And now, it seems that some tracks or songs from the Apple Music Classical catalogue are showing or appearing on the standard Apple Music app for a number of users (1,2,3,4).

I thought we had them separate for a reason. Classical plays showing on Music play history and New Music suggestions.

So now random pieces of a symphony I listened to in the classical app are being added to my replay 2023 playlist. I really wish there was a way to not sync the two apps

Reports indicate that the music previously saved or listened to on Apple Music Classical is surprisingly finding its way to the main app’s (Apple Music) library as well.

Do note that Apple Music app has a ‘Use Listening History’ feature that may be activated or disabled anytime. When enabled, it syncs played music across Recently Played and Replay mixes, and even affects your recommendations.

But surprisingly enough Apple Music Classical doesn’t offer this function for some reason.

Why is there no option to turn off Use Listening History like on the AM app? Is classical going work its way into the algorithm?

This weird behavior could also possibly explain why Apple recently released a separate app for Apple Music Classical on Android.

The fact that almost every single piece of classical music has been covered by someone and there are various renditions of each song, listening to classical music on the main app inevitably becomes a cluttered experience.

Therefore, as rightly pointed out by one of the users credited above, the classical music listening experience on a different app is substantially better.

No official word in sight

As things stand, Apple Music Classical users are now just asking the developers to give them the option to turn off the ‘Use Listening History’.

Unfortunately, Apple hasn’t responded to any of the reports as yet. There is also no workaround that can prevent Apple Music Classical songs from showing in the Apple Music app.
