Original story (published on November 12, 2021) follows:

Final Cut Pro, Apple’s video editing software, may have worsened its performance after the most recent update to 10.6 version on macOS 12 Monterey.

Some macOS 12 Monterey users are reporting that, after upgrading to v10.6, Final Cut Pro has become slower, less responsive or is not working.

Final Cut Pro not working well after 10.6 update

According to reports (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6), the performance of the Final Cut Pro 10.6 software plummeted:

FCP 10.6 macOS Monterey SLOW & NOT RESPONDING!

Just updated to macOS Moneterey and FCP 10.6 yesterday. Tried using FCP with it today but the loading screen is super super super super slow!!!!!!

I’m connecting a Sandisk Extreme Pro directly to it.

I’m also using a MBP 16: 2019.

Does anybody else face this problem?

Final Cut Pro version 10.6 extremely slow!!!

I installed the 10.6 FCPX update on my 27″ iMac (late 2015) and my editing has been extremely slow ever since. If I just add one transition between two clips, I have to wait a minute or two (with the rotating beachball) before I can do anything else.

I also tried it on my MacBook Pro (16″ 2019) and it acts the same way. Very annoying and counter productive.

I also just updated both machines with the macOS Monterey version 12.0.1 iOS, however I was having the problems before I did that.

Is anyone else having this issue? Any suggestions?

In addition to becoming slower and less responsive, Final Cut Pro is reportedly suffering from constant crashes that completely prevent its use, as it does not allow completing an editing session:

The problem would be on the Final Cut Pro 10.6 update. The previous report indicates that, after returning to version 10.5.4, all the performance issues disappeared.

Therefore, if you need to use Final Cut Pro urgently, you can try reverting to version 10.5.4.

Apple is allegedly aware and working on a fix

One of the affected users reports that, after having contacted Apple, they would have confirmed that they are already aware of the performance issues of Final Cut Pro 10.6:

This does not work, I spoke to apple support today and they are aware of the problem and are working on a fix! So run Etrecheck or anything else at this point your wasting your time!

However, Apple has not offered an official public statement on the matter. At the moment, it only remains to wait for the arrival of a fix.

In the coming days, if there is any new development in this regard, we will update this article. So, stay tuned with us. You can also check the bug/issue tracker dedicated to macOS 12 Monterey.
