[Updated] Apex Legends chat not working or broken on Xbox & getting kicked out in character selection screen, issues acknowledged

When it comes to Battle Royale games, Apex Legends is surely one of the most enjoyable video games in the genre.

Within three years, the game achieved the milestone of having more than 100 million registered players worldwide.

That being said, players have complained about issues such as missing Twitch drops and packet loss in the last few days.

Adding to the trouble, Apex Legends players are now saying (1,2,3,4,5) chat is not working on the Xbox version of the game. While some say it works at times and is choppy at best, others disagree and claim the function is broken for them.

This is causing a lot of frustration amongst players as communication is the key to winning especially when it comes to fast-paced shooters like Apex Legends.

Is anyone having issues with party chat after the new update? I’m on PS5 and my buddy is on XBOX, we cross play and prior to the update had no issues. Immediately following the update, his mic is acting weird—His audio is sporadic or delayed, and sometimes all of the sound from his sentence will lag, and then it’s like the sound plays all at once very quickly. Is anyone else experiencing this? Does anyone have a potential fix?

This update messed up game chat on series x. So not only did it NOT give us 120 fps but it also messed up game chat. My mic keeps cutting out and people can’t hear me. It doesn’t even show it’s moving. This was nothing but a waste of 70 gigs on my game. It says “60 fps” I already had that. What was the point of this?

Fortunately, EA Help has commented on the matter and said developers are aware of the issue and are working to find a fix for the problem. But, there is no ETA on when it will be resolved.

Apart from this, Apex Legends players are also experiencing a problem where they are getting kicked out of the character selection screen (1,2,3,4,5). The issue seems to be affecting ranked matches and resulting in a temporary matchmaking ban for some.

Some say even if they restart the game, it is not asking them to re-join the round making Apex Legends completely unplayable for players. You can see in the image below the error players are reportedly getting when they get kicked out of the match.

So when i try to play ranked i load into a game and u know the banner that shows up right before the character select screen it blinks 7 times then it kicks me out of the game then says unable to load I’m able to play pubs just fine I’m so close to pred and this glitch fr making me mad cause i wanna hit it but the glitch is stopping me do u guys know any fixes

Whenever i play and get in a match the game freezes in the champion selection and then kicks me out. If it’s a rank i get banned for 10 minutes, i have to leave the game, abd then return to play. This is just making the game unplayable. I am on ps4

EA Help has thankfully shed some light on the problem and shared a link to a thread where you can submit bug reports to help them with the investigation.

We hope the developers resolve the aforementioned issues as soon as possible since they are seriously impacting the gameplay in a negative manner.

12:19 pm (IST): Respawn has released a fix for the issue with ranked matches in next-gen consoles.

01:50 pm (IST): Respawn has released another small patch for Apex Legends. However, it does not include any improvements or fixes for the chat issue.

06:02 pm (IST): A player who reported this issue to EA support has alleged that the support has redirected him to another site to report it.

05:11 pm (IST): One of the affected players suggested a workaround that involves clearing the cache of Xbox. If you are still facing this issue then you can try it out.

04:42 pm (IST): EA support still says that they are working on a fix for this issue. This means that it’s still not resolved. Also, they did not provide any ETA for the fix.
