AO3 users take a dig at WattPad migrants for struggling to adjust to platform

Archive of Our Own (AO3) is an online community where fans of various media share their creative creations. It serves as a digital refuge for fan fiction and transformative works.

The platform allows users to explore various tales, form relationships, and venture into unexplored territory.

Following it’s popularity, users from other platforms like WattPad have recently started migrating to it. However, it looks like AO3 users are not happy about this.

According to reports, some Archive of Our Own users (1,2,3,4,5,6,7) have been making fun of WattPad migrants for not being able to adjust to the platform.

WattPad users are grappling with a number of issues after relocating to AO3. Some of them being inability to use tags correctly, the length of some users’ comments, and so on.

As per the claims, those who have switched from WattPad specify those tags which are not useful in searching for one’s work.

On the other hand, new users write dialogs and thoughts in a format that is different from that of the website. Apparently, they use the bold and italic styles interchangeably.

Surprisingly, there are even some ex-WattPad users who are baffled to see as to why the recently migrated people on AO3 are struggling.

According to them, AO3 is far welcoming in a way, as people get to leave their thoughts on other users’ work (which is not the case with WattPad).

However, there are other reasons as well for which new users have come under heavy criticism from the existing ones. The migrants allegedly use this website like a social media platform.

In addition to this, they have time and again requested for censorship, the removal of dark works, and the introduction of the concept of monetization.

Notably, users also treat comments or kudos thinking that it’ll change the position of one’s work on AO3. But in reality, these don’t affect it in any way.

Some also keep changing the publishing date to manipulate the position of their work. Due to this, old users have become concerned about the future of AO3.

They argue that the platform should not become another Twitter or TikTok in terms of culture. They also believe that new users should familiarize themselves with the site’s existing culture and rules.
