If you’ve been eagerly waiting to get your hands on the next version of Android, your wait will finally come to an end tomorrow. Google is poised to unveil the first Developer Preview of Android 15 as early as this Thursday, February 15, 2024. Codenamed “Vanilla Ice Cream,” this early peek into the next generation of Android will give us our first glimpse of what’s to come down the line.
In a recent comment on the Android Open Source Project, a Google developer mentioned the first Android 15 preview, internally called “Android V” (or “Vanilla Ice Cream”), is “scheduled for Feb 15.”
Android 15’s preview arrives later than its predecessor, but good things come to those who wait. As expected, this first Developer Preview will likely be restricted to Google Pixel devices. So, for all Pixel owners out there, get ready to experiment.
This update comes hot on the heels of the Android 14 QPR3 Beta 1, making the beginning of 2024 a truly exciting time for Android enthusiasts.
It’s most likely that we won’t see big new changes with the first preview itself. However, we do anticipate seeing at least a hint of the ‘Private Space‘ feature that was spotted back in November last year. As usual, we expect to see more information about what’s coming to Android 15 during Google’s upcoming I/O event.
Remember, Developer Previews are early builds, so they might not be the most stable (think of them as experimental new recipes). If you’re currently enjoying the beta program, sit tight as those updates will likely continue the Android 14 fun for a while longer.
