Tired of your Pixel screen draining your battery while you’re not even paying attention? Get ready for a smarter Android experience with Android 15’s upcoming ‘adaptive timeout’ feature. Android expert Mishaal Rahman (on Android Authority) revealed this exciting development.
This new feature works by intelligently detecting when you’re not actively using your phone. Whether you’ve set it down or have stepped away for a moment, your Pixel will automatically turn off the screen. This means greater privacy protection and extended battery life – all without you having to lift a finger.
Mishaal found the following strings in the Android 15 Developer Preview 2 update, indicating the existence of ‘adaptive timeout’:
<string name="contextual_timeout_description">Automatically turns off your screen early if you’re not using your device</string>
<string name="contextual_timeout_title">Adaptive timeout</string>
While previous Pixel models offered the ‘screen attention’ feature to keep the display on while you looked at it, this new innovation goes a step further. It’s a win-win scenario for Pixel users who care about both security and maximizing their phone’s battery life.
Keep in mind, this ‘adaptive timeout’ feature in Android 15 looks to be a Pixel-exclusive addition, at least initially. I have a habit to lock the screen immediately after I stop using the phone, so the feature might not be a game changer for me personally. That said, what are your thoughts on the feature?
