Google Pixel users in India are currently grappling with a particularly frustrating problem after updating their devices to Android 14 as it appears that 5G is not working.
5G functionality not working on Google Pixel phones after Android 14 update
With the rollout of Android 14, Google Pixel users were eagerly awaiting a slew of new features and improvements. However, for some users in India, this update came with the loss of 5G connectivity. As more users reported this issue, it became evident that it affected users across multiple networks, including Jio and Airtel.
This 5G connectivity issue affects all Pixel models, not just a specific one. I’ve found over 70 reports of this issue on the Google support forum, Reddit, and Twitter. It’s been going on for a while, and people have tried using other brands of phones in the same area and have gotten 5G connectivity.
Users have tried numerous troubleshooting methods, such as resetting network options, moving to areas with better connectivity, or reaching out to their respective carrier support teams and seeking help from Google. However, the problem persists, leaving them without a 5G connection that had previously worked seamlessly.
Issue since beta
Interestingly, it appears that this 5G not working issue previously surfaced during the beta testing phase. Unfortunately, despite the feedback, it seems that the issue persists and has found its way into the stable release, affecting even more users.
Jio’s and Google’s alleged response
In a bid to find a solution, some users took the initiative of reaching out to their network providers. One user allegedly contacted Jio’s customer support, only to be told that everything was functioning correctly on their end. The user then contacted Google for help, but Google support also dismissed their concerns, saying that there was nothing wrong with their device.
Google has not yet acknowledged this 5G issue in India, and there is no clear way to fix it. 5G connectivity is more than just a minor inconvenience on Pixel devices, so I hope Google releases a fix soon.
