Google has begun rolling out the Android 14 QPR3 Beta 1 update for eligible Pixel devices in the Android 14 beta program. The latest release brings a taste of the June Pixel Feature Drop to your fingertips. While major user-facing changes are still under wraps, this update marks a significant milestone with the highly anticipated Circle to Search feature finally available for beta testers.
The update is live with the build number AP21.240119.009 and weighs close to 300MB. Our Pixel 7a bagged it with a size of 315MB. The update installed relatively quickly on the Pixel 7a compared to earlier updates. Once installed, the main new feature you’ll see is the addition of Circle to Search on the Pixel 8 and 8 Pro. In fact, it’s the only fix Google highlighted in the release notes:
- Android 14 QPR3 Beta 1 resolves the following issue and also includes fixes for some issues that are not noted here.
- Fixed an issue where Circle to Search wasn’t available to Beta users. This feature was unintentionally released only to non-Beta users.
Initially released only to non-beta users, Google acknowledges that it was unintentional and has now made it available to beta testers as well. So Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro users with the beta who were wondering why Circle to Search is not working for them can now access the new feature. To avoid any confusion, yes, Circle to Search is still exclusive to the Pixel 8 series, even on the QPR3 Beta 1 build. It’s unclear when other Android devices, including older Pixel phones, will bag Google’s shiny new AI-powered feature.
Existing Android 14 Beta participants will automatically receive the QPR3 beta update over the air.
