Google has just rolled out Android 11 beta 2 update to the Pixel devices participating in the program. The software went live for public users last month and is now getting closer to the stable release, probably in a couple of months.

The purpose of beta testing software is so that participants can dig out any bugs that need to be ironed out before pushing the stable version of the software to the masses.

So far, it appears that Android 11 beta testers are doing a pretty decent job. In the latest beta 2, reports of a bug that has been here since the developer preview days are still doing rounds.

Google, you removed the “Force 90Hz” refresh rate option in developer settings with Beta 2, and swapped in a toggle to show the screen’s active refresh rate. Why can’t we have both?

Apparently, the annoying display flickering issue that is as a result of switching between 90Hz and 60Hz display refresh rate setting on the Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL handsets is still present in Android 11 beta 2. Matter of fact, affected users say things have gotten worse now that there is no option to force 90Hz.

When it first popped up, forcing 90Hz refresh rate in the developer options temporarily fixed the issue on some units, but in Android 11 beta 2, this option is gone, something that has left many unhappy especially since the flickering issue is still present.

With the option to force 90Hz now gone, it means those with Android 11 beta 2 installed on their Pixel 4 handsets will have to live with the flickering issue for now. On the brighter side, Android VP of Engineering, Dave Burke, has shed some light on the matter.

Apparently, the issue, which had already been made known to Google via the issue tracker, has been fixed internally and is only waiting for a wider rollout to the public within the coming two weeks.

Does this mean Android 11 beta 3 will be out soon? Probably, but all we can do now is wait for the bug-fixing update to be released widely to affected users. Hang in there.
