Dark Mode has been an increasingly common feature in many mobile applications and websites in recent years.

It is a feature that replaces the normal black text on a white backdrop with white text on a black or gray background.

Amazon is one of the world’s leading online shopping platforms, with millions of monthly users, and has yet failed to introduce Dark Mode on its app and website.

Therefore, several users have taken to social media and online forums to demand that Amazon adds a Dark Mode option to its app and website (1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8).

Dark Mode has many benefits, such as reducing eye strain, saving battery life, and improving readability in low-light environments.

However, Amazon does not have a native dark mode option on its app or website, which frustrates some users who prefer to shop online at night or when in dimly lit rooms.

They argue that dark mode is not only a matter of personal preference but also a matter of accessibility and user experience.

This has led to many complaints and requests from Amazon app users who want a better user experience and more accessibility options.

Anyone else wonder why Amazon and other big names still don’t have dark modes for their web pages? I don’t think most ppl like staring at bright a white screen at night. I.e. Google Sheets and Docs have dark mode on mobile apps, but not on PC.

This isn’t the first time Amazon users have asked for this feature as there have been multiple instances in past as well (1,2).

Potential workarounds

We have come across potential workarounds that might help users get ‘Dark Mode’. Here are steps to do so on the Android app:

1. Open System Settings
2. Go to About Phone and then click on Device Identifiers
3. Click on the Build number seven times

You now have access to developer options. Next,

1. Open System Settings again
2. Go to Developer Options
3. Go down to the Hardware accelerated rendering section and turn on the Override force-dark mode option.

Similarly, PC users can install extensions such as Dark Reader or Night Eye to darken the Amazon website.

While Amazon has yet to announce any plans to introduce Dark Mode on its app or website, it is clear that users are eager for the feature.

Until then, Amazon app users will have to either stick with the bright light theme or use unofficial methods to darken their screens while shopping online.
