Original story (published on September 06, 2021) follows:

Amazon Prime Video is among the top streaming services across the globe. It is offered both as part of the Prime subscription and a standalone service.

While Prime Video has a pretty decent user base, several users have been facing an issue with the service lately.

As per multiple reports from the Amazon forum, Prime Video subscribers are unable to stream content due to a VPN/proxy error.

Basically, Amazon Prime Video users are getting the ‘Your device is connected to the Internet using a VPN or proxy service’ error while streaming.

This is inconveniencing users as the error is occurring even though no VPN or internet proxy is in use.

I don’t have a VPN and wouldn’t know how to set it up if I did. Please help I have reset the router and checked my regional settings and they are all normal. For more help, go to amazon.com/pv-vpn.”

When I attempt to watch video, I get error message saying to disable VPN. However, I am not using a VPN. I’ve cleared history, restarted, used alternate browsers–the error message keeps appearing, and I am prevented from watching videos. Remedy?

It is unclear whether the problem is related to internet service providers or not as Amazon has not provided much clarity on the matter.

Also, the lack of workarounds for this issue is further complicating things for users as they are unable to use the service by any means.

While several Amazon Prime Video subscribers are facing this problem now, it seems that this VPN/proxy error has been around for quite some time.

message telling me to disable a vpn/proxy server blocks streaming. I don’t have either and have not changed ISP or any access or settings since it worked 48 hrs ago!

There are multiple reports regarding this problem that date back to January 2021 and even September 2020. Amazon Staff members acknowledged this issue and it was even fixed in late August 2021.

However, reports indicate that some users are still getting this error on Amazon Prime Video even without a VPN service or proxy.

Hopefully, Amazon takes a proper look at this issue and resolves it soon so that subscribers can watch their favorite content without any hassle.
