It seems like Roku owners cannot break a sweat without some app crashing every other day.

A while ago, several Roku owners reported that the HBO Max app is crashing and freezing on their devices.

Now, users are reporting that the Amazon Prime Video app is not working on their Roku Players. According to user reports, the app launches and returns the user to the Roku menu screen.

Be it Reddit, Twitter, or the Roku community forum, users on almost every Roku device report that the Amazon Prime Video app is not working for them.

Same issue started for us today. It was working perfectly last night.

Roku 4630 Premier. Uninstalled Prime, restarted Roku, reinstalled Prime. Still not working. All other channels operating fine on Roku. Contacted Amazon Prime, they said no issues on their end. (Source)

Upon further investigation, it looks like the development team responsible for maintaining and updating the Amazon Prime video app pushed a faulty update that was causing the crash.

If the Amazon Prime Video app is crashing for you, here is a workaround that has worked for most people who are experiencing the issue:

– On your Roku, highlight the Amazon Prime Video App
– Press the * button on your Remote and then choose the “Check for updates” option
– The app will be updated to the latest version

You will notice that the version number (Version 12.0 – build 2021070213) visible in the star (*) menu will still be the same, but that’s okay.

It looks like Amazon silently pushed an update to Roku devices, fixing the issue without making any change to the app version.

If you try to update using some other way, you might not get the update since the version number is the same.
