The One UI 2.1 update included some handy features like the Apps edge panel and Multi Tray window. The former is meant for devices with smaller display while the latter is meant for foldable and large screen devices.

Both features allow users to run supported apps simultaneously in split screen mode. However, the OEM is planning to integrate these features into a single one with the One UI 2.5 update.

The OEM has recently announced on the Samsung community that the new Apps Panel will be rolled out to Samsung Galaxy devices running One UI 2.5. The integration involves major changes that further improve the usability of the Apps Panel feature.

Now, users can configure 22 apps in the Apps Panel as compared to 10 apps in the Apps edge panel and Multi Tray window. Also, users can configure the app launch behavior to either touch and hold or simply tap for launching an app in split screen mode.

Apart from this, the Apps Panel feature allows a maximum of three apps to run simultaneously in the split screen mode. However, this functionality is limited to devices with a larger display whereas smaller display devices will be able to run only two apps simultaneously.

The OEM has mentioned that all devices that are running One UI 2.5 will get the Apps Panel feature. Also, while most Samsung Galaxy devices will get the update on top of One UI 2.5 itself, other devices will get the feature with Samsung Android 11 (One UI 3.0 or One UI 3.1) update.

Before this announcement, we only had information on the One UI 3.0 update but now the OEM has specifically mentioned One UI 3.1 in the announcement post. This means that Samsung might be planning to release the Galaxy S21 with One UI 3.1 out-of-the-box.

That said, Samsung is already getting ready for the Android 11 (One UI 3.0) update so be sure to check out our dedicated tracker to stay updated on the topic. Moreover, you can go through our One UI 2.5 update tracker to know when it arrives on your device.
