History repeats itself.

The proverb may sound cliché, but I can’t find a better expression to describe the current smartphone photography trends, especially the recent boom of enormous megapixel sensors. The decade old megapixel war is returning again, along with some new twists underneath.

Budget friendly mid ranger phones such as Redmi Note 7 Pro now come with 48 MP primary camera

Now that the market is kind of saturated with the 48 MP offerings, Android OEMs are preparing to take off for the next iteration. After releasing ISOCELL GM1, Samsung once again took the pole position in this race by announcing ISOCELL Bright GW1.

The ISOCELL Bright GW1 is a high 64Mp resolution image sensor designed to take bright and sharp photographs in any lighting with Tetracell and 3D HDR technology. The ISOCELL Bright GW1 features 0.8um pixel with ISOCELL Plus technology that significantly increases light sensitivity and color fidelity for more accurate and clearer photos.

PiunikaWeb readers should remember that Madhav Sheth, CEO of Realme India, announced as the first OEM to carry the 64 MP Samsung camera sensor in one of their yet-to-be-named phone. The phone should be launched in India by the end of this year (2019).

Madhave even shared a bunch of sample photos captured using the monstrous camera sensor. However, a contender is secretly nurturing itself since days, who has now decided to drop the first teaser of their work.

Behold, as Redmi (or should I say Xiaomi?) has just published the glimpse(s) of 64 MP camera output via their official Weibo channel!

Due to compression, it is hard to notice the actual level of details from the above picture. In case you are wondering, the original file weighs about 19.3 MB, while having the resolution of 9248 x 6936. None other than Lu Weibing, Vice President of Xiaomi and GM of Redmi, has shared the info.

Similar to Realme, Redmi has not posted anything about the tentative release date of the new phone(s) with the Samsung 64 MP camera sensor. As the teaser has been posted using Redmi’s handle, chances are Mi lineup will get the 64 MP treatment after an unknown Redmi camera beast.
