Adobe Photoshop Type 1 fonts not working after latest v23 update? It's not a bug, company confirms

Adobe Photoshop is one of the most popular image editors in the world. The software became a favorite of many due to the great set of tools and resources it offers.

Among the different resources that users have available, there are fonts of all kinds. As an example of this, Adobe Photoshop has been compatible with Type 1 fonts for years.

But, in the last few weeks, Adobe Photoshop users realized that, after a recent update (v23 update), the Type 1 fonts are missing.

Having said the above, users of the software are realizing that some fonts that used to work correctly are no longer working after v23 update. Because of this, many thought it was a bug.

Hello, I am using the latest PS on the latest macOS. There I have installed a font. This font is also visible in Illustrator and e.g. MS Word and also usable.

In Photoshop, however, I can not find it. It is not displayed. Documents that use the font show that this font is missing. I have tried all the tips from the Adobe help page. Unfortunately no improvement.

Having said the above, it is important to note that the loss of Type 1 fonts in Adobe Photoshop is not a bug. For some time now, the company has already warned when they will stop supporting those particular fonts.

Is the font a Type 1 Postscript font? If so, the newest version of Photoshop will not be able to recognize or use it; support for Type 1 fonts was discontinued with this version of PS.

But, it seems that Adobe’s communication strategy was not the best. Apparently, many users were not even aware that in Photoshop v23 update, Type 1 fonts would no longer be supported.

I just want to say that you guys should have had a HUGE warning on your version 23.0 Photoshop upgrade that the Type 1 support was being dropped BEFORE it gets installed. That little tidbit cost me and my company some valuable time today restoring old versions back onto our machines!
