If you are a graphic designer, you must have heard about Adobe Illustrator. Originally designed for the Apple Macintosh in 1985, it is a vector graphics editor developed by Adobe Inc and is part of the Creative Cloud subscription.

Users have the option to export graphics in 15 different popular formats such as BMP, CSS and Flash amongst several others.

While the app is quite stable, Adobe Illustrator users are now reporting that they are getting error code 2067 when trying to open DWG or DXF files. The issue seems to be affecting multiple versions of Illustrator.

Users say they tried downgrading to an older version, reinstalling the app, and updating to the latest version but the issue persists. Many are frustrated since the problem is affecting their productivity.

You can see in the image below what the error message looks like for those affected.

Hello. I am exporting a .dwg file from Sketchup (file > export > 2D graphic > Format: AutoCAD DWG file (*.dwg)). When I try to open it in Adobe Illustrator I get the following error, “The operation cannot complete because of an unknown error [2067]. Illustrator and SketchUp are up to date. Please advise.

Trying to open a DXF file in Illutrator, which I have been able to do successfully for many years (on a PC with Windows 10, and the DXF file is generated by Lectra Modaris). But today 4/19/22, after Illustrator auto-updated to v26.2.1, I can no longer open DXF files and recieve the following error message: “The operation cannot complete because of an unknown error. I’ve tried closing all other windows, restarting the computer, updating the computer, and downgrading from v26.2.1 to v25.4.1, but still the same error message appears. Not sure what else to try. [2067]”

With some reports dating back to March, it looks like the problem has been troubling users for some months now. Thankfully, Adobe has acknowledged the issue where Illustrator users are encountering error 2067 when trying to open DWG or DXF files.

They said that it usually happens when the DWG/DXF file is exported using a third-party application. Moreover, there is no timeframe on when the issue will be resolved.

We are sorry for the trouble. This is a known issue and has been reported by multiple users. This generally happens when the DWG/ DXF file is exported using a third-party application, not AutoCAD, or you have exported using an older version of AutoCAD. I will be happy to provide you with the Ai file for your DXF file. Would you mind sharing the download link to the file here or via DM with me in case confidential?

We hope they fix the bug in the coming days. Rest assured, we will be updating this space once Adobe fixes the issue so stay tuned.
