Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla is the latest installment in the long-running franchise. The game takes place during the Viking expansion into the British Isles.

Released in 2020, Valhalla quickly gained massive popularity, thanks to the stunning visuals, narrative, characters, and the return of social stealth mechanics.

But as is the case with every game these days, the title is susceptible to bugs and issues such as players getting stuck on a white screen when launching or loading the game or the low audio quality issue which Ubisoft is not going to fix.

And according to recent reports (1,2,3,4,5) from Valhalla players, many say their runes have disappeared after their gear was automatically upgraded to divine quality.

The problem seems to be limited to those who purchased the Dawn of Ragnarok expansion pack and is affecting items that were purchased from the store. Players say their runes have vanished from their inventory as well.

Many said they have lost a large amount of runes due to the bug. Below are some reports from Valhalla players who said their runes suddenly disappeared after the 1.5.0 update.

So, I just got on to Valhalla not to long ago today. And saw that the reda/store gear was upgraded to divine qultiy. But what in the hell happened to the runes that I had in all that gear?! My isu knight set was my highest in terms of assassination damage at 230.4. This happened with the mastery challenges. And I doubt anyone at Ubi is going to give me all my missing runes back. That is over 412 hours of playtime GONE! I need a reply on this today!

I pre-ordered the expansion a few days ago and when I booted up the game today, I was greeted with an on-screen message which stated that all of my store bought items were automatically upgraded to divine quality due to purchasing the expansion. Upon reviewing my store bought weapons and gear, I noticed that all of my slotted runes were removed from my gear. Normally, this shouldn’t be a problem, however in this case, not only were they unslotted, but deleted from my inventory! Please note that this issue only affects store bought items as non store bought items aren’t upgraded to divine quality.

As it turns out, Ubisoft has added the Assassin’s Creed Valhalla bug where runes have disappeared for many to its list of known issues.

Ubisoft Support said that the issue is currently under investigation. Unfortunately, there is no ETA on when it will be fixed.

We apologize for the inconvenience this has caused. We are aware of this issue and are currently investigating it. Please let us know what platform you are playing on, and what your Ubisoft username is. Thank you!

On further investigation, we did come across a workaround that requires players to go offline and unequip all the runes and go back online.
